Start with your hair routine
Before applying for anything, list what you would actually like to try: shampoo, conditioner, a styling product or a treatment. Note whether your hair is coloured, curly, fine or prone to dryness, and how often you wash it. Accurate information helps you judge whether a campaign is suitable. A product aimed at a completely different routine may be free but still be of little use to you.
Check live testing projects
Savvy Circle publishes projects for individual products. Check the current list rather than relying on an old post or a screenshot of a closed campaign. Haircare availability changes, and a panel may have no suitable test open when you visit. Read the screening questions, number of applications allowed and tasks before applying. Selection is a possibility, never a guarantee.
Explore beauty communities
The Superdrug Community has product-testing discussions and requires verified customers aged 18 or over to access its community. Explore the current activities after checking its rules; membership itself is not a promise of free products. Our beauty panels guide also includes sampling clubs and research panels that are worth checking for relevant opportunities.
Understand research studies
Eurofins Alba offers a UK home-user route as well as studies in Edinburgh. A research invitation can involve a specified routine and scheduled questionnaires. Check whether you must avoid other products during the study and whether you can meet every deadline. Boots Volunteers is another research service, but its portal was closed to new members when checked on 13 October 2026.

Look at the offer, not just the headline
A small sachet, full-size bottle and competition prize are different offers. Check which one is being advertised. For a competition, there is no certainty of receiving anything. For a trial, check whether delivery is included and whether there are tasks to complete. For a gift with purchase, count the purchase and postage as part of the cost. Do not buy a bundle you do not need just to get an extra bottle.
Ask a useful question in person
When visiting a retailer or salon, you can ask whether a product you are considering has a sample size available. Mention your routine and what you want to learn, such as the texture or how a conditioner feels. Staff may have advice even when there are no samples. Accept the answer without expecting a free product; availability is specific to that business and its current stock.
Keep feedback clear and honest
If you are chosen for a test, follow the supplied instructions and record what you notice over the required period. Describe the texture, scent, ease of use and how the product fitted into your routine. Do not claim a result you did not observe. Save the campaign details so you can submit feedback in the right place. Check our latest free samples for newly listed haircare opportunities.
Apply to test the five-product Pantene Hair Glowtox range
The trnd UK project page is recruiting 1,200 testers for five Pantene Hair Glowtox products: shampoo, conditioner, a mask, leave-in spray and hair oil. Applications close on 2 November. Join or sign in to trnd to apply. Selected testers are asked to try the range, share their routine on TikTok and Instagram, provide reviews and complete a final survey. This is a selection-based testing campaign, not a guaranteed giveaway. Check the project page for the latest application status.

Clicks Research: another product-testing route
Clicks Research has a live registration form and sends matched trial invitations to members. Participation is free, with an online questionnaire to complete after a product trial. Describe your haircare routine accurately in your profile and look for a relevant invitation. A specific haircare product is not currently promised by registering; availability and selection depend on the studies recruiting.
